How do I install Operations?

How do I connect my GitHub account?

Open the settings panel from the dashboard header and paste a GitHub personal access token. A fine-grained PAT scoped to the repos you care about is enough. The token stays in Chrome storage and never leaves your device.

What permissions does the extension need?

Operations uses 'storage' for your config and vault, 'alarms' to refresh GitHub data in the background, and 'activeTab' so the popup can bookmark the current tab. It does not ask for broad host access to every site.

What GitHub activity shows up?

Open pull requests (yours, assigned to you, and review-requested), open issues you are assigned to, and draft PRs — grouped by org and repo. Filters live at the top of the widget so you can narrow to what is waiting on you.

A project is a bundle of related things — repos, live sites, staging URLs, docs, vault items, and notes. Think of it as a dashboard for one codebase or one client. Create as many as you like, drag to reorder.

Yes. Notes are project-scoped, support basic markdown, and archive instead of delete so nothing disappears. Archived notes stay searchable from the settings panel.

Where is the vault stored?

Only in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. There is no sync server and no cloud backup unless you explicitly export. Each Chrome profile has its own isolated vault.

Can I export my vault (or all my data)?

Yes. From settings you can export the vault — and your full Operations state (projects, notes, bookmarks, preferences) — as a JSON file. Import that file on another machine or another Chrome profile to restore everything. Your data is portable by design, never locked into the extension.

Open a project, pick 'Vault', and add a key-value pair. You can also tag items with a type (token, password, API key) for easier filtering later.

Can I copy a secret without revealing it?

Yes. Each vault row has a copy-to-clipboard action that never shows the value on screen. Clipboard auto-clears after a short window.

What happens if I uninstall?

How do I switch themes?

There is a theme toggle in the top-right of the dashboard. Cycle through the five directions — NOPE Classic, Mission Control, Field Manual, Observatory, Ink — and each has a light and dark mode, for ten looks total.

Observatory is the stargazing theme — deep indigo background with aurora washes and a subtle starfield. Each section gets its own accent color so notes (blue), projects (green), bookmarks (orange), and vault (red) read at a glance.

Does the theme affect typography?

Yes. Mission Control uses mono brackets and an uppercase status label. Field Manual sets the greeting in italic serif and numbers sections in roman numerals. Observatory keeps Geist Sans with colored section icons.

What is the toolbar popup for?

The popup — click the Operations icon in the toolbar — gives you quick actions from any tab: bookmark the current page, jump into a saved project, or open the vault.

Can I bookmark a page into a specific project?

Yes. When you bookmark from the popup, you can tag it with a project so it appears in that project's carousel on the dashboard.

GitHub widget shows nothing

Check that the PAT has access to the repos you care about. Fine-grained PATs need repo-level access explicitly. If the token is valid but the widget is empty, confirm you have open PRs or issues assigned — filters default to showing only what needs your attention.

Dashboard did not load after install

Open a fresh new tab — the dashboard only takes over on new-tab opens, not on already-open ones. If it still does not appear, go to chrome://extensions and make sure Operations is enabled. The 'Errors' button on the Operations card will surface anything that went wrong.
